今日の東京/current situation in Tokyo

海外の企業などが放射能を心配して東京を離れ始めています。日本語でしかもどの情報を信じていいものかどうか分からない状況、外国人の方の心情はよく理解できます。

私の住んでいるあたりは食料はスーパーに潤沢に供給されており（トイレットペーパーはばかばかしいので昨日はチェックしませんでしたが）、学校もお店も会社も通常通りです。普段どおりです。
昨日の夕方の段階で東京新宿区における放射能は０．０５マイクロシーベルトが観測されています。発表されている観測結果を信用すれば、この値はまったく通常と同じで何の心配も要りません。放射能が東京を離れる理由にはなりません。

心底、楽観視しているわけではありませんが、今、私達は微量の放射能を気にするより、停電による不便より、東北の被災者の支援をしましょう。

 
The foreign staff left Tokyo for Osaka last Saturday (it was very quick!! decision), but the Japanese staff have remained in the Tokyo area. I understand that foreighner have good reasons to be worried about a nuclear accident. It is very difficult to find reliable sources of information for foreigners.


There are some problem related the electric shortage in the suburbs of Tokyo, but, otherwise, everything (i.e. schools, shops, companies) is working as usual in Tokyo - or at somewhat reduced hours. The latest radiation level - for March 17th at 5 p.m. - was 0.05 micro Sv, just slightly above the normal (.035 micro Sv). I am not completely optimistic, but there is no reason to leave Tokyo for now. I am more concerned about what can I do for the people in the Tohoku region than I am about the radiation levels in Tokyo.
